WIP Wednesday: Block a Day No. 70

Today is the 70th day of Spring! If you're keeping up, you should now have 70 Bethlehem Star blocks.

I love the way this quilt looks. This might be my new "all-time favorite" quilt. It is almost too big for my design wall. From now on, I'll have to hang it over the edge of the deck to take photos.

Linking up to WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

And at Tami's Amis.

I'm going to have a thousand 3.5" squares of low-volume prints left over from the BaD -- any ideas what to do with them?

  1. The black centres really make those stars pop!
1000 squares?? - leaders and enders into 9 patch blocks - maybe 16 patch blocks and a plain around each square all joined up??/ bit boring but...its all I can think of at the end of the day.
    thats a lot of squares

  2. Are the blocks already sewn together? You could use the extras as dashing to make the quilt larger. Although 3.5 inches would probably be a little big. I would probably sew them together and cut in half before sashing. Beautiful quilt!

  4. 1000 left? That means you cut 1720!!! I feel so inadequate! I still have to cut another 200 3.5" squares to finish the 40 blocks I have left. It sounds like an upcoming BaD in Fall or Winter will have 3..5" squares in it to me! Or, you could sew them all together to make the backing for this quilt, which is beautiful. I'm wishing now that I had done something more neutral.

  8. Give them to me! Actually, 3 1/2" is a useful size for 12" finished 16-patch blocks, so you could use them for background on a future quilt. They could also be made into 2" finished HSTs to incorporate into other blocks.
