Design Wall Monday

Only four more days to comment for a chance to win all 12 of Sassafras Lane's patterns in the Grow Your Blog giveaway. Go here to comment.

Something new on the design wall today! It's the March Jelly Roll Party sample. The pattern is "Yummy" from Jaybird Quilts, the fabric is "daydream" from Moda.

Um. yeah. When the pattern calls for 42 strips, sometimes you really need 42 strips. Lucky for me, Ruth's Stitchery has yardage of this fabric line, so I can supplement my jelly roll!

I can't decide if I like the color-progression layout best, or if I should go random. Here is what the pattern cover looks like, with random arrangement of the fabrics:

So happy to find a new Monday link-up! It's Anything Goes Mondays at Stitch by Stitch.

Since I have to run over to Ruth's to buy a bit more fabric, that gives me time to mull over the layout. What do you think?

  1. I am not good at random. It is something I have learned about myself. But I think that is going to be pretty either way.

    1. Thanks, Donna. Sooli suggests doin the color progression, but in a diagonal direction. I'm going to try that!

  2. I think the random would be pretty, but I really like it laid out the way it is. The color contrast is striking. You might try reversing the last two sections though, making the deeper greens near the deeper blues and the lighter ones trailing. Really depends on what you plan to border it with though. Excellent job...I may need to add this pattern to my To Make list.

    1. Aaahhh, good idea! Clearly I need to play around with the layout some more before I commit!

  3. I like the way you have it laid out now. . . very pretty :) I'm not much for random anything . . . not that I have control issues or anything ;)

  4. I'm not a random person either - I can only do it with a huge variety of fabrics. (even then its a struggle) I like the idea of moving the green too.

  5. I like the rainbow effect of the colours but wonder if its a bit rigid in lines across the quilt. Is it possible to do the colour blend on the diagonal, say start top left and graduate the colour down to the bottom right? Either that or random. The quilt on the pattern cover is quite neutral so has a different look altogether. I'll be interested to see what you end up doing!

  6. Like the color progression but I think on the diagonal might just be the ticket!

  8. Yep, Sooli has a great idea about the diagonal. I have a hard time with random but I know it looks pretty when it's done. These colours will make it great no matter how you choose!

  9. Depends on what vibe your are going for. I would go with the random.

  10. That's a great use of a jelly roll! I have one which has been languishing in the cupboard for a couple of years, waiting for inspiration, so this might just be IT. If it was me, I'd go scrappy with that quilt, then you could simply add some fabric from stash to finish it and no one would be any the wiser. Besides, I am a scrappy quilter LOL.

  11. What color is your sashing going to be? I think that would make a difference on Random or strata. I think I would have to try the random and see how I liked it. I would probable go random...even though I would rearrange it a dozen times to get the right color balance.

  12. Like the colors you choose. I wonder what it would look like put on a diagonal.
