WIP Wednesday: Fail

Sigh. Remember how you decided not to buy "the rest of the bolt?"  Well, you should have!

This would be what we call "false economy." You think you've bought plenty of that Daiwabo Serenity Ombre for the sashing. And if you had made the 12-block quilt according to the pattern, you would have plenty. But if your Little Sailor informed you, "Mom, you know I have a full-sized bed now that I'm not living on the ship," you would not have enough fabric for the sashing!

Rats.  Great Hairy Rats.

Here is my WIP Wednesday,  "Ryokan Plus."  I added eight blocks to make the quilt full-size, rather than throw-size.

I adore the "cobblestone" sashing. But I don't have enough fabric to make the horizontal sashing.  What to do, what to do?

Maybe, if the quilt gods are with me, someone will sell me another half yard of this fabric.  Beth? Beth? Beth?

  1. If you can't get more of that fabric, maybe you could piece horizontal sashing that looks like a street.........grey black-top with a broken yellow line down the center?

By the way, the blocks are gorgeous !

  2. Oh what a bummer! If I had some I'd mail it to you in a jiffy. But alas, I do not. I love the quilt, and your blogs are simply stunning!

  4. Oh! I like it very much. We are actually running a QAl in Greece with home blocks. If you like take a look at January's blocks. Unfortunately it will be Greek to you but images speak about the project!

  5. That is SO annoying! But because your missing sashing is all horizontal I think it will look like a design decision if you use another colourway. As Dolly says grey/black or lighter browns. Good luck!

  6. I think something in a dark, chocolatey brown or a deep grey with some texture, such as a tone on tone would work in the horizontal sashing as it would look like a road. Its such a great quilt!

  7. The dark brown you out lined the houses in would work beautifully

  8. You have punched the selvedge details into an Internet search to see if anyone has some spare fabric that matches for sale?

  9. Good luck finding some - or being happy with a different idea.

I adore this quilt - think I may have said that many times before...
