WIP Wednesday: Summer "A Quilt Block a Day"

Summer arrived in Colorado this week, and disappeared today! Highs in the 90s Fahrenheit yesterday and Monday, highs in the low 70s today.

I know Summer is a busy time for many quilters. So for the "Quilt Block a Day" Facebook group, I chose a super easy block, Shoo-Fly. Here is a link to the post with the tutorial, and here is the Facebook link.

The advantage (disadvantage?) to being the group sponsor is, I have to finish my blocks to show you each week! I'm making one quilt from large (15" finished) blocks, using Liberty of London Lifestyle prints in assorted blues.

Here are the first nine blocks:

And here is a close-up, so you can see the prints:

I was lucky enough to find more of this fabric at Trelotta today to stash for the binding. For a full-bed sized quilt, I plan to make 30 blocks. Which means I will have the first Summer BaD quilt completed by the end of July!

  1. I like the block a day idea. Maybe that would help me feel like I'm making progress. Love your fabric choices!

  2. Those are great fabrics. Nothing like a commitment to get a quilt finished!!!

  3. I made one block today before work; it got me SO excited, I hope I can do it again every morning before work. But what do you bet the habit never becomes habit...

  4. I am a "returning" quilter, and brand new blogger. I recently brought home some of my mom's stash, including a lovely piece big enough to be backing, and several coordinating fabrics. My mom can't see well enough to sew any more, so, my plan is to make her a large lap quilt from her fabrics. I want to do something with HST's, because I love them. This might be just the thing! I really enjoy your blog! Thanks for being an inspiration!
