If you need a quick quilt for a gift, I can readily suggest this design!
Here is the sample for the April Jelly Roll Party at Ruth's Stitchery. I tried two different layouts -- which do you like better?
I like "rainbow" layouts, so I tried this layout with the colors moving from the off-white background to the red:
But I decided the uneven numbers of each color would bother me, so I went with the random layout:
The pattern is "Gemini" from Villa Rosa Designs. The fabric is "Mon Ami" by BasicGrey for Moda. I chose this fabric because of the raindrops in one of the prints -- April showers, you know! I love the "grunge" semi-solids from BasicGrey, they add so much texture to the background. I'm planning straight-line quilting for this modern design. It will finish at 52" X 65" throw size.
Super-quick to sew up -- I had the pieces already cut, and it took only the better part of one day to stitch! I'll be using this pattern again for a baby quilt, or a 12th birthday quilt.
The fourth Jelly Roll sample quilt for 2016 finished already. Hooray!

I like the random look too.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful. I love those fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI like the random look, almost like wonky circles.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I like them both. I see your point about an uneven number, so I say go with random. Either way, it will br beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun design!
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to go fabric shopping this weekend to get what I need for a queen size quilt. It will be the first one I make in ten years, and I'm really looking forward to getting back to the hobby I used to love so much.
Tough call. I like both layouts.
ReplyDeleteI like both layouts! I was leaning towards the rainbow layout, but I see what you mean with the uneven number of colors. I'm not sure that would completely sway me, but it is YOUR quilt. You should always go with the layout that speaks to YOU! :)
