No, it's not that the top edge is missing -- that's folded over the deck railing so I could take the photo.
It's the flying geese in the outside border. The background and colored prints are reversed! I can't believe I got the quilt top completely finished without noticing this mistake!
Sigh.
This is the 2012 Fat Quarter Shop "Designer Mystery BOM" quilt. It's made from Bonnie & Camille's "Vintage Modern" fabric, a collection I loved so much I bought the entire fat quarter bundle. And made four extra blocks so the quilt would be big enough for my queen sized-bed.
Guess it's not really finished, huh?

This is an awesome quilt even with the backwards geese! Every time I see one of these I wish I would have joined in. Good work on the, almost, finish and thanks for linking up with TGIFF!
ReplyDeleteI thought that was part of the design. When I saw that I really thought that was a clever twist for the border. Doesn't look like a mistake to me at all. Looks like pattern enhancement if you ask me :) Great quilt

ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else - it's beautiful - so fresh looking. I looked and looked and couldn't spot the mistake until I read on and you said, and even then I couldn't work out which corner as I had thought it was part of the pattern! Beautiful fabric, beautiful quilt! Gill (sorry it always says my husbands name - but it's an improvement on Anonymous!)

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look like a mistake to me. Looks gorgeous!! We just moved into our new apartment yesterday so I'm hoping I can finish January's UFO but if not I'll finish two in February and just keep claiming this move. Haha ;)
ReplyDeleteI would definitely call it a "design decision." Variation is also part of design, and what better one than reversing colors! I like the quilt.

ReplyDeleteI agree - our "mistakes" often look fine to observers. As far as UFO #7, we were in San Antonio for a week and just came back. So far #7 is on the table and I just look at it every day! Hopefully I will be motivated next week.

ReplyDeleteI did this one too but found that the reds would not work in the bedrooms. I am going to use them to cover seats in the kitchen when we get further along in that reconstruction.

ReplyDeleteWell that is really funny because I would have never noticed and I would have thought it was part of the pattern. Each block is so beautiful. Really nicely designed quilt and of course the fabric is wonderful too. Love everything about it.
