Silly Me Saturday Giveaway

I was going to call this the "I'm an Idiot Giveaway," but I try to avoid negative self-talk.
But really.

See this?

 And this?

Guess what they have in common?

Yep, I bought them when I already owned them.  When I saw "We Love Color" on several blogs, I couldn't wait for it to hit my LQS, so I ordered it from Amazon.  Then when I saw it at Ruth's Stitchery, I asked them to check the computer to see if I had already bought it.  Umm, their computer doesn't show purchases from Amazon.

And when Carrie showed photos of her new Schnibbles patterns, I completely forgot that I had subscribed to the Miss Rosie's Quilt Company Pattern Club from Fat Quarter Shop.  So I ordered the PDF version of all four of these patterns.

Silly me!  Lucky you!

Two readers will each win one either the book or all four Schnibbles patterns.  To enter:
  • Just leave a comment on THIS post.  It would make me feel better if you told me about something you accidentally purchased in duplicate, but you don't have to.
  • Be sure to leave your contact info if you're a no reply commenter.
  • International entries welcome.
  • Giveaway ends next Saturday, July 14 at noon, MDT.

Good luck!

  1. Thanks for the chance to win :) I love the patterns :)
Sometimes I will buy duplicate magazines too.. Me and my sister loves to read a monthly fashion magazine from our local store. We will buy same issue each month. :(

  2. I would love to say I never buy anything in duplicate, but I frequently buy magazines in duplicate; I forget that I have a subscription and buy them from the fat quarter shop, and before the arrive from tree, they come in the mail from my subscription. I have also bought duplicates of books without realizing it until I go to put them in my bookcase (sometimes months after they come home. The schnibbles patterns would be great! I will, however wait to find out if I win them before purchasing them - just so I don't get them twice! kim at peachquilting dot com

  3. That gave me a bit of a chuckle - mmmm I haven't often bought the same pattern or book twice - but I often end up with duplicated threads. Mainly I end up with duplicated lipsticks and nail polishes - its obviously the colour that does it for me!! Thanks Marti for your generosity! My fingers are crossed....

  4. Hehehe - silly you but very lucky us!! I purchased some red fabirc the other day becuase I thought "ooo lovely' and got home to put it away and I already had it in my stash! Whoops! But it is really nice red fabric and I have two swap partners that like red so it will eventually get used! FAB giveaway! Thanks for letting internationals enter :)

  5. Hmm...I used to buy lots of stuff in duplicate, then as I got older I got broker so I don't have that problem anymore :p Thank you for the giveaway!

  6. This cracks me up! I just organized my fabric and found a bunch of fabric in duplicate And it is not just with sewing...iTunes is always having to tell me that I already bought songs! I wish I could be more organized!

  7. Thanks so much for the chance to win - you chose wonderful things to buy twice!! I have definitely been surprised by buying the same fabric twice - oh well... I blame it on my age - ha ha!!!

  8. I buy food all the time when we have plenty. Such as peanut butter. I once had five opened jars and had a sixth I was trying to find room for. Did this all the time till hubby started trying to keep track of what we already have! :-) Thank you so much for the giveaway!

  10. I often buy commercial sewing patterns when they are on sale at Jo-ann's. Many times I come home to find that I already have several copies of the pattern I just bought. I guess the good part of this is I'm consistent in my taste!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Buy things in duplicate? Of course I have done that...mostly with magazines...especially those I have a subscription to (you'd think I would remember which ones I get...but 'NO')!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  12. Buy things I already have? Many times with fabric, I'm sure. As for quilting books, I have to keep a list on my computer to keep track of what I have. Helpful if ordering online, but not so much when you're at the store! I also do it often with groceries -- you know, take home the coffee and find you already have 2 more in the pantry! But I know I don't have your duplicate book or patterns so I'd be glad to help out!

  13. Off the top of my head, nothing quilty, although I have bought things to replace things that seem to have disappeared in my sewing room! I'd love the Schnibble, since I am participating in AYOS. Oh, I bought a purse pattern and everything to make it. It was for a gift. When I went to make it, of course the pattern was nowhere to be found. It turned up later!

  14. Today I bought duplicate lawn sprinkler parts.. My Mom used to buy the same fabric over and over again. I guess if you like something - you like it every time you see it! (I love to read your blog because you are SO AMBITIOUS!!)

  15. do that way to much myself so i know what you mean thanks for the giveaway

  16. I'd love a chance to win. I think that I bought 3 6-1/2 inch rulers.

  17. In the past month, I've bought the same magazine 3 times! (In my defence, they did 2 different covers, so I'm not quite as bad as it sounds.) Thanks for the chance to win.

  18. ha! this reminds me so much of my Mom, she sends things in duplicate! She mailed my brother 3 different bottle openers and probably 4 or 5 vegetable peelers for new place! Just kept sending them! I guess she thought they were a really practical gift!

  19. I just did the same with 3 quilt patterns. I guess we all forget what we order. Thanks, Jera

  20. Oh boy, hmmm. For me, buying things in double usually happens at the grocery store! Buying things we already have because I think we're out.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I buy purple thread over and over, I dont really know how it happens, but clearly when I look at my thread stash it's a bad habit :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't usually buy things in double accidentally, but I have been known to forget if I have something on hand and end up re-buying it to make sure I don't run out. I have a lot of white thread!

    ReplyDelete
  23. LOL! This happens to me more than I care to admit outloud, otherwise dear hubby may hear!

  24. Great giveaway! I have bought duplicates of fabrics, books,
and I do this at the grocery store, when I don't take a list. Thanks for the chance to win!

  25. I bought the X-Rated Schnibbles, and then the book that has the same pattern. Not exactly the same thing, but I still had an extra. I would love to win the 4 Schnibbles patterns since I do them each month! Thank you for sharing your extra. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm trying really, really hard to think of a time I double-bought, but I can't come up with anything. Sorry. ;-) I hope this doesn't disqualify me.

  27. That book has been on my list to get, so great giveaway! This has nothing to do with sewing but I frequently buy the same Disney videos for my boy when I see them at the thrift stores

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks for the giveaway!! I have bought so many things in duplicate... books, music, gifts for my mom... those last ones are particularly embarrassing, since I never realize it until she opens the same gift I gave her the prior year...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Would really love to win a copy of that book! Now, for what I've bought in duplicates? Hmmmm, many things! Mainly books and movies but a lot of them, and hey they are expensive at times! Thanks for the chance to win!

  30. 21 years ago I appeared in a newspaper feature with my 2 sons, the feature included a fab photo of the 3 of us. So for Christmas presents I got the newspaper to blow up the image as large as they could (it's something like 3' x 2') and had it framed twice - once for my husband and once for my m&d. On Christmas morning presents were handed round and it was instantly pretty obvious what had happened, my Mum had done exactly the same thing and we were now the proud owners of 4 of these framed photos. The silliest thing was that my Dad had been with both of us when we'd visited the newspaper and placed our orders and hadn't thought to say a word!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I haven't bought duplicates very often, unless you count the same shorts in different colors. Thanks for the chance at your generous giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have not purchased the same thing twice, but at work I wrote the same 4 page memo a second time and did not figure it out until I went to save the second draft.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've bought duplicate books before too! :-) And bought the exact same birthday card for my nephew two years in a row! LOL I also re-watch movies frequently-- unintentionally-- I'll be thinking that "this seems very familiar"== then all of a sudden, I remember "I've watched this before!" Oh well, I think it's just because we lead such busy lives, our brains only keep the really important stuff front and center! :-) Thank you for sharing your "extras" with us! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have many "two-fer's"! I buy double magazines all the time and double books. Oh let's not talk about purchasing the same fabric at shop hops. So believe me you are not alone.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have bought fabric that I forgot I already owned, but that's not REALLY a mistake is it!! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway

  36. Oh goodness! I've been longing after that book. I once bought the same novel...4 times. Twice in two different airports and then twice at home..Each time I thought I hadn't read it yet.

  40. I remember one time, long before I started quilting, I came home from a day of shopping and I had purchased the same book twice. I had been to 2 different malls & therefore had gone to 2 different bookstores & purchased the same book in both stores. And yes, I've purchased duplicate copies of quilt books & patterns too. I've also purchased the same fabric a few times. Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Duplicates -- oh yes, that is easy to do especially for fabric staples like "solid white" - I just remembered another piece yesterday and of course, dye lots vary so none of the pieces match.
Either prize would be wonderful to win -- and I know I don't have duplicates of these. Thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  42. oh bummer for you ordering duplicates, but so nice of you to share the fun! i've purchased the same fabric before from the same shop & didn't realize until getting it back home that i had gotten a piece in the same colorway!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, when I go grocery shopping, I buy stuff I already have ALL the time...I guess a list would help!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I do that all of the time - usually with books. I'll pre-order from Amazon, then also buy it when I see it in the store! Oh well!! Thanks for the chance to win!

  46. This is so funny. I usually buy fat quarters and frequently come home and one of my daughters will say- you already have that one mom. I usually reply that I must really like that one. Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh yes, I have accidentally bought the same book several times- admittedly on one occasion it was because an overseas version had a different title, so I didn't know I had read it, but...

    ReplyDelete
  48. So glad, that you will share your duplicates. Love those patterns and book. I think I have done this a couple of times on groceries, so that wasn't so bad. Thanks again for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh, no, you're not the only one to buy duplicates. I've purchased the same fabric twice, three time - even FOUR times. The four-timer was inexcusable. I bought it the fourth time because I thought it was so ugly I couldn't pass it up. Thanks for the opportunity to win. I've heard great things about the book, and you can never go wrong with Schnibbles!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh how funny! I have purchased the same print of fabric on several occasions not realizing that I already had it in my stash!

    ReplyDelete
  51. i often buy the same book more than once, because i forgot i read it...

  52. Hi Aunt Marti-

What a nice thing to do...give these duplicates away to a couple of readers! I used to have a really bad problem buying triple A batteries every time we went to Costco! LOL We seemed to never have them, and i got it stuck in my head for about a year that we needed some every time we visited Costco. Needless to say, I've not needed to purchase any of those sized batteries for quite some time!! :)

  55. Nice to know I'm not alone in accidentally buying duplicate quilting books and magazines. I usually give them to my sister, telling her I thought she might like this, rather than admitting I was a bit on the silly side and bought it again! On the downside - I was in a bookshop and they had the "Prints Charming" book on sale - I didn't buy it because I was convinced I had it...yep it turns out I don't have it...I'm going back to that shop very soon!

  56. Oh, I just came across two unopened packages of rulers by Fons and Porter, the kind that enable yountomdraw a line down the center of a square and easily make two HST's from it. So I'll be giving one of them to my iece, in a quilting gift bag that is rapidly expanding as I come across surprises in my sewing room.

  57. I mostly duplicate buying patterns. The last one was a fairly expensive pattern was one of the Christmas embroideries.

  58. Marti, I have purchased MANY patterns and books twice...sometimes magazines, too, because I can't remember if I have updated subscriptions!! I usually give the extra's to my mom and it's pretty embarrassing to admit that I purchased duplicates. I keep thinking I will set
up a list on my phone of all books and patterns I have, but honestly, that would take too much time. I am going to just chalk this up to my old age :)

  61. What a cute story but believe me, you are not alone. I have done that on patterns for sure. There was a pattern that I really loved but was debating due to money being tight. But everyone knows if you don't get something that you like when you see it, chances are it won't be there next time. So when it went on sale months later, I bought it. Only to find that I had already bought it! I guess I had accidently-on purpose forgot about the purchase. If asked, I had no memory of buying it. hehe. Actually I've sone the same thing with magazines and food items. That's when I know I really, really like something. Why else would a person buy the same thing twice. hehe.

Thank you for such a great giveaway and a chance to win. I looked and I don't have the book or patterns you are giving away. ;D

  63. I would love to win the book! How fabulous is that! I have doubled up on buying a few movies for my kids. If I see something at a good price, I'll pick one up and tuck it away in a 'future presents' drawer. There have been more than a few duplicates that end up in our house that way. Oh well, we'll usually tuck them in a present when they're going to a friend's birthday party, no big deal! Thanks for sharing your doubles with us!

  64. I have purchased duplicate fabric before. I had watched this one particular line and bought some charm packs as soon as it came out. It came in the mail and I admired it then put it on my shelf. Some months later it went one sale and I thought to myself, now is the time to buy! Totally forgetting that I had already bought it. Luckily I can do something with the extra fabric. :)

  67. I've been collecting pieces of Kaffe Fassett fabrics in cobalt blue, to make a shower curtain. I purchased two pieces on eBay from a shop in Oregon. About a month later I saw an auction for a remnant from the end of the bolt and bid on it - turned out to be the same shop and most likely the same bolt of one of the first pieces I purchased. Oh well - now I can use it to trim some towels to match. Thanks for the give away, I haven't purchased many patterns so I don't have either one of these yet.
