Here's how it works:
1. Pull out 13 of your UFOs. (Notice I didn't say all your UFOs. I know you have at least 13!) These can be half-done projects, barely begun projects, or even quilt "kits."
2. I put each project in its own 2-gallon size plastic bag. Saves time I would have spent looking for the pattern or the special template required!
3. Number each bag 1 - 13.
4. Come to 52 Quilts the morning of the first day of each month in 2013 and I will have posted the number for that month's project.
5. The 13th project is "extra credit." Complete it at any time during the year.
As the year progresses, we'll discuss a link-up -- would you like to link up your finished projects? Maybe form a Flickr group?
And of course, there will be giveaways. I think one each month for one of the "completers" that month!
Speaking of "completers," um . . . I didn't quite make my "30 Quilts in 60 Days" goal.
I did, however, piece 52 quilts this year! For "Finish it up Friday," I'll post a "year in review" with all my 52 Quilts.
Now, go dig out those UFOs and start labeling! Tomorrow morning, come back and see what number was drawn for the first of our "13 in 2013 UFOs."

This might just be the motivator that I need! Thanks - it is definitely worth a try!
ReplyDeleteHow can I resist?? List is nearly done . .
ReplyDeleteAnd I meant to add that although you didn't make the 30 quilts you still achieved so much in a year- so Well Done anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad you let us include "quilt kits" - I have too many of those hanging around that are not started...
Oh Aunt Marti- Would love to join you, but in this season of my life, I just don't have the time. :) I might sneak one or two in now and then! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm in. Is a finish when the binding is on? Good luck everyone
ReplyDeletelove this idea! though I redid my list and already have 31 on it!! hmm that's 13 backwards..... LOL
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I found this idea. I hope to get my ufos lined up toorrow and join the challenge this year.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of UFOs and didn't make much headway last year. It was dismal, so I'll try again this year. It can't get any worse, can it???
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting and motivating us to finish all those UFOs.
Aunt Marti, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog kwiltnkats about your 13 in 2013! Sounds like it might work for me. I've already got my list of 12 and nearly all of them in 2-gallon bags. It won't be hard to find #13. Did you really get 52 quilts done last year? I've had some great years but never 52! Please tell me they are small quilts....Sandi
ReplyDeleteI am a bit late but I have my 13 UFO's in a tub and have my number 5 ready to get started so will see how I go. Thanks for putting forward the idea. Sometimes we just need a push to get back to those projects we started and didn't finish. Hugs...
ReplyDeleteoh im interested. as i cleaned out my sewing room yesterday i found that i have way more UFOs than i thought. would love a chance to get em done and outta there!!
ReplyDeleteAngela, that's why I said "13 OF your UFOs," not ALL of your UFOs! Did you realize you comment as "anonymous," so your comments go straight to Spam? Sorry for not answering earlier.
DeleteI just purchased 10 Christmas gifts for NEXT year while the Christmas fabrics are on deep discount sales. At the fabric store I put paper labels on the fabric piles but this is the perfect exercise for me to really get it organized and put in priority order. Thanks for the motivation! I may be closer to 13 than I thought!!
ReplyDeleteSay, Princess, did you know you comment as "anonymous?" And your comments go straight to "Spam?" Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I just started looking at my spam folder this morning. Good luck with your "13 in 2013!"
DeleteReally? I have to log in to leave a comment. Is it still showing up as anonymous?
DeleteYes, Princess, I'm sorry! But I always get a kick out of going to your blog and seeing your photo!
DeleteI'm a little bit late, but better late then never... and how could I possibly miss a challenge whereby I get to finish up UFO's!! Off to sort 'em now!
