Blogiversary -- A Survey and a Giveaway!

It's hard for me to believe I've been blogging for one year today!  Thank you to everyone who follows my blog, to those who comment and play along with my giveaways, and especially to My Little Sailor for designing and maintaining the blog.

And now, for something completely different . . .

The buyer at my Local Quilt Shop asked me to question my friends and fellow quilters about solid-color fabrics.  What line of fabric should they stock in the shop?

So I designed a survey (gotta love those PhD classes in Quantitative Research Methods, I knew they would come in handy some day!).  The survey is completely private, no one, including me, will know what you answer.

However:  If you want to enter the giveaway, you must comment on this blog post and tell me what is your favorite line of solid fabric (not the color, the manufacturer!)

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world's leading questionnaire tool.

Thanks for playing along!  The survey will remain available until November 30 at noon MST, when the Random Number Generator will choose one follower to win a bundle of solid-color fat quarters.

  2. Hi Marti!
I have to say Robert Kaufman (kona) because I haven't found any of the others (yet!)

    ReplyDelete
  3. I put favorite color as white only because that is what I buy the most, but I love the grays and creams to use too.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Kona solids are my go-to solids...love them!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I love Kona white (Robert Kauffman) which I use more than any other solid.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I love Kona best! I think because it's so easy to find pre-cuts!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Kona is my favorite. Maybe because it's so prevalent in LQS.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Kona solids have great colors. I also like the hand. Thanks, Aunt Marti!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I love Kona solids, but I like Moda, too. But I'll go with Kona because I have more of it right now :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Kona is my favorite mainly because I LOVE the feel of it! Plus, they have TONS of colors!!!

  11. Hi Aunt Marti! Glad to take the survey. My favorite solid line of fabric would be Kona. I don't buy nearly enough solids ever, and I'm trying to buy more solids and less prints. Finally I am seeing the value in "blah" solids (which really aren't blah but rather useful!) as I progess in my knowledge as a quilter. :)

    Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!

  12. I love all solid colours... but find myself buying white more often when i do purhcase a solid.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I like Kona the best. I really need to get a color card.

  15. Definitely Kona (Snow) is my favorite, but I purchase a lot of solid red or blue for QOV, too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Kona. But that may only be because it's the one I'm most familiar with (I don't buy a ton of solids)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I prefer Free Spirit Designer solids for their great hand but have yards of Kona because it it less expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is hard for me - I rarely buy solids - though a have quite a stash of them from years gone by when all we could buy in Australia was a basic homespun. I do have some Moda black and it has a very nice feel to it - overall, colour is the most important factor when I buy solids and then the quality - which you would call "hand". Thanks Marti - very clever little survey - did MLS help with that ??

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am in love with Basic Grey's Grunge line.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love Konas, have also tried some Moda Bella and that is nice too. If the color works and the fabric is nice, I will buy it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I do love Kona, but Moda has a wonderful softness that Kona does not.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'd have to say that Kona is my favorite!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I like Moda Marbles. They seem to go with everything. Kona is really nice too though....

    Thanks!

  24. Oh my, looks like I'm in with the right crowd because I love Kona, too. I've had good luck with Bella solids also.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kona, Kona, Kona - love, love, love!
2nd choice would be Art Gallery Fabric solids.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i love solids mostly white right now thanks

    ReplyDelete
  27. My favorite is Art Gallery but as it's more expensive and has less colors, it certainly isn't my go to fabric.

I usually go with Kona because I can buy it with garment fabrics at fabric.com, and pick up basics at Joann's. I do kind of wish I had Moda more widely available, but unless things change I think I'll keep the status quo!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love Moda Bella solids. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love Kona, mostly because of availability and the wide spectrum of colors!

  31. I like Moda fabrics. I use solid colors to make "fabric" frames around the cross stitched pieces I make for World of Charity Stitching. I sew these squares onto tote bags and pillows for seniors and children. Thanks, Peggy peggy_verdongibbs@att.net

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love the feel of Moda solids and buy them when I want to match a specific Moda print. I usually buy Kona because they are more available and I can usually get them on sale at a good price. I love taking surveys so this was fun for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love moda thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have been getting solids from Connecting Threads; price is an issue for me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love kona solids too, kaufman sent me a color chart recently, didn't know there were THAT many colors. drool!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kona... just took your survey... Solids are very versatile, particularly for applique work.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I buy Kona because its always available and most people in bees and swaps expect it, but I love the feel of Michael Miller' Cotton Couture solids. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. My choice is Moda and I have used Kona also....

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have like and have Kona solids but more recently I've been using and buying more Moda Bella Solids. They go so nicely with my precuts :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I really like Kona solids - the thickness, texture and feel are wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love the Kona solids, The feel is terrific, and their colours are consistent and rich.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really like Kona solids, my second choice would be Moda. Thanks for a chance at your giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Love the Kona fabric. It is what I know and can depend on, it also has a great color selection and is cheaper. I haven't tried many other brands.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I said Moda in the survey -- but it sounds like I need to check out the Kona!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I like Robert Kaufman solids. And right now my fav is grey. It changes according to my mood, season or something...not sure what changes it. It was black the first half of the year!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I've never tried Kona but hear it's very good with a good colour range.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Moda Marbles are my favourite choice of solids. I've just bought some Kona for the first time which is nice, too.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love kona solids. There are so many colors to choose from. I buy on line since there are no fabric stores in my area. I love purples. babscorbitt@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have most often purchased Kona cottons -- readily available, loads of colors. But recently got to try some Northcott solids. Ohhhhh myyyyyy! They're lovely! I know Art Gallery fabrics are quite popular, too, but they just don't have the drape I like. However, I do love their crisp-ness, so it's six of one, half a dozen of the other! lol

    ReplyDelete
  53. I often think I should use more solids fabrics in my quilts, but I have to plan for them. They don't tend to jump out and shout "use ME" like some prints do.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love Kona because there are so many colors available! Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kona is what I have available to me so that is what I buy, but I would love to try some others that have a softer feel.

  56. I really like Kona solids because there are so many colours available and they are great quality.
I tried Art Gallery solids too and I love the feel of those best, but the colour spectrum is not as great as Kona.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love Kona Cotton by Robert Kaufman - second would be Bella Solids

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have absolutely fallen for Art Gallery solids. The feel of them is like nothing else!

    ReplyDelete
  59. My favorite is Michael Miller Cotton Couture. Or is it Couture Cotton?

    ReplyDelete
  60. My favorite line of solid fabrics is RJR Kona Solids. My local quilt shop carries this line. I've heard good things about Moda Bella Solids, but have not had access to them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. For price, and a big selection of colors, it's Connecting Threads, for knock your socks off specific colors, and hand, nothing beats Art Gallery in my book! Maybe I'd change my mind if I had each manufacturer's colors cards at my disposal. Since I order all online, I often have to guess how it will turn out.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm a fan of Kona because I can get it at the LQS. It's also a great price/yard. It's my go to for solids - mostly because that's all there was at the shop before the Bella solids came out. :]

    ReplyDelete
  63. My favorite is probably Kona also.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I like Northcott. It's not as available as Kona seems to be, so I've bought lots of Kona. But, Northcott has a very nice feel to it.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Like so many, I like the Kona cottons. I also like a brand sold by my local fabric store, called Heritage Cottons, but I haven't seen them anywhere else. It's a nice hefty fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Kona is lovely but I'd like to try some others to compare, maybe Northcott's solids :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I love Kona because I can find white easily at JoAnns and any other color I want online or at my LQS. I don't really have any experience with other lines.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Kona solids all the way! Love their great selection of colours. Thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  69. My favorite is Robert Kaufman Kona solid cottons! They have such a great variety of colors! :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I love Kona's but now there are several more out there that I haven't tried.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I don't know much about solid fabric lines, but I love the colours Kona has.

    ReplyDelete
  72. The nicest I've used is Kona, but I've heard good things about the cotton couture fabric as well. Thanks for the giveaway. I know it would be used well here.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I generally use Kona, I like kaufman but I have to order it online. Kona I can run to the store and see the color immediately. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I use Kona and Moda Bella because they are readily available at my LQS. I love the feel of Northcott fabrics, but don't remember seeing their solids recently. Any solids will be welcomed and used in my sewing studio.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I only really know Kona and Bella solids - fabric is so expensive over here, I go for whatever is cheapest!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I use Kona and Bella - only because they seem to be the most readily available and well priced!

    ReplyDelete
  77. A very fine article and exceptional blog. Is there any way I can subscribe to new articles, you know like acquiring them on email or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'd have to say Kona because it's the most readily available and there are many wonderful colors. I like others but they aren't as easy to come by and don't always have the range of colors Kona does.
Wonderful giveaway- many thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I love to use Cherrywood fabrics. It is so soft and the color are wonderful. They are all suede look solids.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I haven't used a lot of solids in my sewing but I really like the feel of Kaufman fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It's a toss-up between Kona and Moda - but I think I have a slight preference for Kona

    ReplyDelete
  82. I like the hand of Kona and the richness of the fabric. It really works well for me! Thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Kona is my favorite. I like the firmness of the fabric and the variety of colors available at different stores. Shades of grey are my color of choice. Thanks for putting my name in the hat for the drawing!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Bella Solids are my favorite of the solid choices. They are so soft and of such fine quality that I will go out of my way to find them.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I don't have a lot of solids in my stash and most of those that I have are 10+years old. Of the few I have bought in the last few months since I started quilting again, I really like the Kona and look forward to trying more manufacturers as my quilting progresses.

  90. Only solids I have really tried so far, are Kona...and now I am loyal customer! Can't say enough goooood things about Kona!

Thanks for chance to win your Drawing too! :)

  91. RK Kona and MM Cotton Couture are wonderful solids to use. Kona has a wonderful range of colors and feels more like a JoAnn's weave. CC is more silky and is working well w/a batik quilt my mother is making.

    ReplyDelete
  92. My favorite solids are Kona but I also love Moda. I buy alot of creams and off whites for embroidery but for my quilting, color usually comes first.

Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

  93. I think when I posted before I was (unknowingly) a no-reply blogger. So...my favorite solids are Kona.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I love Michael Miller, but Kona is a definite favorite too! I find that creams are so versatile and work in numerous projects.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I love the Kona color selection, but It frays a bit too much for my liking.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Kona is my favorite, but Moda Bella is a close second. Between the two of them, I can generally find the exact color I need.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I can't really claim to love a single manufacturer of solids - it really depends on the project and the colors available. I am often disappointed by the lack of selection at the LQS. Thank goodness I live close enough to take field trips with my quilting group to Hancock's of Paducah (this is NOT the same as Hancock Fabrics). They have Moda, Kaufman, and a couple other lines and it is wonderful to be able to see the colors in person, and to compare! Thanks for the giveaway!
