If you shop at Ruth's Stitchery, odds are you do. Ruth's has sold more than 1400 (that's one thousand four hundred) copies of this pattern from Gudrun Erle! (photo from Gudrun's etsy shop)
We were lucky that Gudrun agreed to stop off in Colorado Springs on her way to Quiltmaker's Block Party in Portland this week. She taught two of her newest patterns, Slivers and Peek-a-Boo.
Look at the fun we had!
Barb made the large size "Slivers" in Christmas colors:
And I made the smaller sized one in Autumn scraps:
Neither of us finished our table runners in class, but I bet Barb's is finished today!
Gudrun graciously signed a copy of her book, Table Talk.
Which I am offering to one of you! This book has lots of table runners and table topper patterns, as well as some of Gudrun's favorite recipes.
If you'd like this book for your own, please comment on this post and tell me a favorite dinner table conversation starter. My favorite is "What did you learn today that you didn't know yesterday?" Giveaway ends Tuesday, March 26 at noon MDT. Remember, if you're a no-reply commenter, be sure to include your contact information.
So, today I learned that it's worth buying the right tool for the job!

It's just me and my husband and he is a firefighter, so most dinner conversations start with "How was your shift yesterday?" I always want to hear about all the runs they had and make sure everyone was safe at the end of the day. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWe do not have any starters.. It is just me and my Hubby.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby goes to see his mum once a week and, on those days, I always ask "what did you have for lunch today?". Some of the answers can't be repeated - all I can say is I'm glad I don't have to eat some of the stuff she gives him! If the lunch was something I make, he always says "it wasn't as good as yours". I've trained him well, don't you think? :oD
ReplyDeleteIn order to get my grandkids to give more than a yes or no answer, I always ask them What are you reading? My grandson can't help but tell me about whatever book he's reading, in detail.
ReplyDeleteI ask what crazy thing happened at school today? There's always something.
ReplyDeleteMy husband buys the food needed for each lunch ... Each day sitting at the table and asked me ... What we eat today?...

I love that Peek a Boo pattern....very cute.
ReplyDeleteWhen the kids were smaller we made them each think of a news item to share.
Its just nice when we get together and sit at the table. My husband and I have a tendecy of sitting in front of the TV to listen to the news. That looks like a really nice book. It would be a nice win.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt as you go idea! The question we used to ask our kids when they were at home was, "What was the best part of your day?" I bet we'd all feel better each day if we stopped to remember back to the good parts of the day. Thanks for the chance to win the book!
ReplyDeleteI always ask what was the best thing that happened to you today as we eat. So many negative things occur it is great to talk about the good events!
ReplyDeleteWe spend our dinner time trying to find out what our children have done at school - they are 6 and 4 years old so what they tell us is often quite confusing and usually focuses on what they ate for lunch eg "little ducklings" which turned out to be dumplings! Thanks for the giveaway - it looks a fab book. Gill

Ours often start 'You'll never guess who I saw today!! '
ReplyDeleteMy husband would tell you that I often start with "I read an article about...". It's probably true, as I do read a lot of bits and pieces about a wide variety of topics. Family dinners were a high priority in our house when our son was growing up and we loved hearing about his day. It's awfully quiet now that he's out on his own, but he does call most days on his way home from work to tell us about his day. And for a 23 year old living in New Orleans there is always something interesting going on!
ReplyDeleteI have that book! Its a great one! Wish i had known she was there, id have loved to taken that class!
ReplyDeleteOur family always goes around from oldest to youngest with "What i learned new today" BUT on birthdays instead we go around with "What i wish for you this year" We dont eat together that often, but when we do, the kiddos make sure we do those questions.
That looks like a fun class to be a part of! The book looks fantastic too. We eat dinner every single night as a family and never need a conversation starter with three kids. Usually the kids all say as many prayers as they can get in before I'm like "let's eat!"
ReplyDeleteI have that pattern and would love to have the book by her. Our table conversation starter is, Did you do something exciting today!
ReplyDeleteThe class looks fun and the book looks really interesting. We have always eaten dinner together as a family at the table and so the conversation just follows on from whatever we were talking about before we sat down. We worked about 14 miles away from our home and our children went to school where we worked so the 'what did you learn today' conversation always took place on the journey home.
ReplyDeleteWhen my children were younger, each night at the dinner table we posed the question, "What was the best thing that happened to you today?" It always made the unpleasant details of the day seem less harsh if we spoke of the good things first.
ReplyDeleteYour work is beautiful! I would love to have your book so that I too could work on making fabulous runners as gifts and such. Our favorite dinner topic is usually prompted by our children or our dog. It's just goes from how was your day? To what have your learned? And even what one of them can teach a friend. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity.
ReplyDeleteLove the table toppers you made. This would be a great book for me because I love doing toppers because I know it is something I can finish. LOL. Table talk at our place is always started off with what was done on the farm today. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteA table topper is one quilted item I have not tried to make yet and this book looks like my style. My husband and I usually ask, "what do we have planned for tomorrow?"

ReplyDeleteI would love to win the "Table Talk" book so that I could learn some great techniques. We usually start our table talk with, "what a beautiful day it was today, what did you do besides ..."
ReplyDeleteLove Gudrun's two new patterns and her new book looks awesome as well. Table runners and toppers are such a great way to brighten a room and to decorate with. Our children are grown so usually just hubby and myself at dinner. He works with the public so he tells me about folks he met, the good and the "crazyies". So I usually ask him if he had any interesting people today.
ReplyDeleteThank you and Gudrun for an awesome giveaway and a chance to win.

I would love to win this book! Thanks for taking pics, and posting so we could actually see the author.
ReplyDelete"How was your day?" Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat are you grateful for today or what was the best moment of this week for you? Gudrun's book looks doable with nice pattern - thanks or a chance!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to think up a clever "opening remark/question" but my head is a blank. So I used trusty old(?) Google and this would be a good starter:
ReplyDelete• If you could have a conversation with anyone in history, who would it be? What would you want to ask them?
Thanks as always for you generosity in your giveaways...
