My summer has been dedicated to preparing for my "deployment" to Texas. I'm serving as "Deployment Mom" to my niece while her mother is on a long deployment with the USAF. So quilting (and blogging!) have taken a back seat.
But not for our intrepid UFO Finishers!
First, the number for August is:
My favorite number!
I did manage to piece one quilt this summer. Elder Son is moving to Tacoma to complete his business degree at Pacific Lutheran University, my own alma mater. He hasn't lived in a dorm before, so he needed an extra-long twin quilt for his bunk.
Of course, I decided he should have a new quilt three days before I left for Texas! Bonnie Hunter, and Sticks & Stones to the rescue!
It's almost too big for the design wall, so one corner is folded back in the photo. Cornelia is going to quilt it for me using rainbow variegated thread and a block meandering pattern. She'll mail it to me to bind, and I'll send it on to Tacoma before it gets cold there!
The first finish to come in this month is by Gloriajean. Isn't the quilting amazing? This block would make a terrific "A Quilt Block a Day," don't you think?
Irene really has been productive this summer. Three finishes! First, This adorable placemat (I want the pattern!).
Then a lovely watercolor study:
Irene writes:
I had the placemats on my to do list for years and managed to get two cardinals done this month. The watercolors quilt was something I practiced on about ten years ago. In order to get it done I practiced my machine quilting - not so good. However, this is one for me to keep, and I know if I had hand quilted, it would be in my stack for 2016!Details on Irene's blog, A Serendipitous Retirement.
At the last minute, Irene also sent this finish:
This would make a great baby or Quilts of Valor quilt, Irene!
Sandi named her two July finishes for US Navy ships homeported near her home in San Diego.
The main project was Koronado, but Kidd was the bonus project that my interests were fixed on when I saw this QOV Kit. You recognize the two names being US Naval Ships home port San Diego? Of course I did take some liberty with Coronado :)!
Here is the link to my blog where I tell all...

Coronado is dear to my heart, because:
On 28 February 1994, the USS Coronado became the first combatant ship in the history of the United States Navy to embark women as part of its regular, full-time crew.[1]
Kerry is another three-finisher this month. First, cute Valentine squares:
Next, two more months of calendar quilts, May:
And June:
Kerry writes:
The first one is called Valentine Squares. This was super easy and went together quickly. The second two are from Karen Schaefer’s Calendar Quilts. They are May and June. I am slowly working on all of them and have 4 completed.
I am with you on the Calendar Quilts, Kerry! I keep buying the kits, but never seem to get beyond February in completing them!
Donna made this clever satchel for her grandson, and agreed I could share the photo of the model.
Her second finish this month looks so real, I thought it was a photograph! Donna explains:
... the small wall hanging was a class I took at the Vermont Quilt Festival. Completed during the 6 hour class. Yay! But will need to be quilted and probably a little embellishment as well. But I like it!
Heather G. finished this gorgeous Bonnie Hunter/Mickey Dupre quilt, "Ring Around the Hexies."
I love the colors you chose, Heather! Read more about Heather's Hexies at PeachyPages.
Mary promises a tutorial on her blog soon! Follow Zippy Quilts to get the instructions.
Wow, thirteen finishes! And in the middle of Summer! The UFO Parade prize for this month goes to Gloriajean. I'll shop for a prize in Texas, Gloriajean, so send me your postal address and I'll mail you something fun.
In the meanwhile, keep on quilting!
